International company's Gainesville expansion creates new jobs

October 22, 2016

A leading  international food testing company is expanding its presence in Gainesville with a new 22,000 square-foot facility that will not only allow for a new state-of-the-art laboratory and more modern equipment, but will add 30 new jobs in addition to retaining the 70 jobs the company already has created.

Merieux NutriSciences is relocating one of its Southwest Gainesville labs to the east side of town on Hawthorne Road just east of downtown Gainesville. The $3.5 million development plan was announced recently by city and county officials who met at the Gainesville Technology Entrepreneurship Center.

The company provides analytical testing and consulting services to a variety of industries with the ultimate goal of maintaining public health. The company ensures "the security of a wide range of food and pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, agrochemicals and consumer goods."

In April 2015, Merieux NutriSciences acquired ABC Research Holding Company’s laboratories in Gainesville. In the company's continued effort and desire to grow and stay current with technology, the construction of this new, bigger and more modern facility is a must.  Merieux NutriSciences' new location in Gainesville will be a hub for restaurants and nutritional services in the region.

This development on the east side of Gainesville is just a small part of a grander citywide five-year plan to bring more jobs to the city.

The new lab is slated to open in April of 2017, but in the meantime, be sure to keep an eye on continued development throughout Gainesville.
