Fun things to do around town on a rainy day

May 23, 2018

The last seven to ten days in Gainesville has been pretty gloomy and the intermittent showers don’t look like they’ll be lightening up any time soon. Coming up on the Summer months, North Central Florida is notorious for rainy afternoons, scorching heat, sweltering humidity, and other unbearable climate symptoms like mosquitos. In preparation for the rainy days ahead and Summer time heat and schools out, we’ve compiled a list based on feedback from the citizens of Gainesville of fun things to do INDOORS.

Check out local breweries. Top 3 recommended local breweries are Swamphead, First Magnitude, Cypress and Grove.

Check out what’s “playing” live at local theaters such as The Hippodrome Theater, Gainesville Playhouse, and the Center for Performing Arts.

Catch a flick on the big screen. See what’s playing at Royal Park, or Regal Cinemas.

Bounce around at one of the Trampoline Parks. Check out “Get Air” or “Flip Fun Factory”

Claim your lane at a local bowling alley. Splitz and Alley Gators are fun locations to go bowling in Gainesville. Splitz also has an arcade and laser tag.

One of the bonuses of living in a college town is that the University also has a number of museums. You can check out the Harn Museum of Art, The Florida Museum of Natural History, and the new Cade Museum!

And don’t forget, if it gets TOO hot, you can always go splash in some rain puddles!
