UF Helps Hospitals in Need

April 19, 2020

The University of Florida determined the number of local labs and took stock of the equipment they had and the equipment that they still needed.  Everything was somewhat chaotic during this transition so this process helped organize things while bringing people together.  They continued to find more and more hospitals in need.  They all wanted to work to make equipment like masks, face shields, headbands, and aerosol boxes for these places in need.  They went to work and began 3-D printing in their labs.

Many local companies began partnering with them to help pitch in.  These companies, along with many medical professionals, quickly began creating prototypes and producing this much needed equipment. Aerosol boxes were highly requested because of their importance.  They cover the patient's head while the doctors and nurses are working on them.  They protect the doctor when their patients cough and ensure their safety.

In the end, multiple aerosol boxes, hundreds of face masks, thousands of face shields, and hundreds of air-purifying respirator shields were produced along with an abundance of other important equipment and technology.  This huge effort by the community has made an incredible impact.  UF, private companies, medical professionals, and countless individuals all came together to dedicate their time to help these hospitals in need.
