Gator Growl: A Time-Honored Tradition and Today's Celebration

October 5, 2023

Gator Growl, the University of Florida's legendary homecoming celebration, is back today on October 5th, promising an evening filled with vibrant entertainment and a strong sense of tradition. As one of the largest student-run pep rallies in the nation, this event has a history as rich as it is fascinating.

Gator Growl traces its roots back to 1924 when it began as a simple bonfire and pep rally on Florida Field. Over the years, it has evolved into a huge event, featuring fireworks, renowned comedians, and musical performances. Its growth signifies the passion and pride that UF students and alumni have for their school.

One of the most notable aspects of Gator Growl is its commitment to showcasing the best talent from within the university community. From the enthusiastic performances of the Gator Band to the amusing skits by student organizations, the show truly belongs to the Gator Nation. Gator Growl has also hosted some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Bob Hope, Robin Williams, and Jay Leno. This year, Gator Growl is taking its entertainment to new heights with the presence of the well-known artist, Jason Derulo.

Gator Growl continues to thrive as a testament to the lasting spirit of the University of Florida. It's a night when past and present come together to celebrate their love for the orange and blue, making it a cherished tradition for generations of Gators.
